10 Bleidorn Kaserne 1936: construction of Bleidorn Kaserne begins at the same time as Barton Barracks; named after General Bleidorn, the Army Chief of Staff of the German Army from 1918 to 1933. 1945: the post is used as a camp for displaced persons 1946: the U.S. Forces take over; the first units are the 539th Signal Construction Company and a Labor Service Company recruited from Local Nationals. 1950: the post becomes the home of the headquarters of the 18th Field Artillery; it hosts Artillery units until its partial closure in 1992. Many of former Bleidorn buildings are now used by the German Police. Today, Bleidorn Kaserne is home to Army family housing, a library, community tennis courts and the community’s theatrical venue, the Terrace Playhouse.
