18 2011: Army Family Housing and Ansbach Army Lodge open. 2012: the Army Post Exchange store opens. 2013: Automotive Skills Center opens. 2013: Commissary opens. 2016: Health and Dental Clinics open. Urlas Kaserne is home to the Post Exchange with food court and the exchange mall, the Commissary, the Ansbach Army Lodge named Brainard Hall, a gas station, an auto skills center with car wash and modern townhome style Army Family Housing to include playgrounds and outdoor basketball court as well as the Regional Fire Fighting Training Center. Urlas Area 1897/98 – 1924: the Bavarian Army and the Reichswehr use Urlas as a military training area (drill site). 1914: construction of a shooting range. 1935 – 1945: Urlas becomes an ammunition depot for the Wehrmacht. 1945: the U.S. Army destroys the shooting range. After 1945: some parts are used for agriculture, other parts as allotment gardens. 1952: the U.S. Army starts using Urlas as a Local Training Area (LTA) and constructs two bunkers. 1950 – 1960: NATO and the U.S. Army build a Hawk Missiles base. 1987: the Hawk Missiles site is torn down; a patriot missile site and an Initial Readiness Point (IRP) are constructed. 2001: Regional Fire Fighting Training Center opens with the responsibility of training all U.S. Army Europe firefighters 2008: the bunkers and the patriot site are demolished.
