22 1988: 11th Aviation Brigade relocates to Storck Barracks. Subordinate units of the 11th Aviation Brigade include the 4th Battalion of the 229th Advanced Attack Helicopter Regiment (“Flying Tigers”), 2nd Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment and the 6th Squadron, 6th Cavalry Regiment. All three units are equipped with OH-58C Kiowa, AH-64A Apache and UH-60A Blackhawk helicopters. 1985 – 1987: the flight simulator is constructed. 2006 – 2015: 12th Combat Aviation Brigade Headquarters located on Storck Barracks. 2015: 12th CAB moves to Katterbach Army Airfield (AAF). Family Housing, schools and support facilities close and also move to Katterbach. Since 2015: USAG Ansbach work site for Regionally Allocated Forces (RAF). Rotational aviation units are deployed to Storcks Barracks to conduct exercise in locations in Eastern Europe. Storck Barracks 1934: Fliegerhorst Illesheim is built by the German Luftwaffe. 1936: construction complete. Supply, maintenance and repair facility for the Luftwaffe. The Castle Berlichingen in Illesheim is used as the Headquarters. The only combat unit stationed at then Fliegerhorst Illesheim is the Zerstörergeschwader 52 (ZG 52), during mid-1939 equipped with early-model Messerschmitt Bf 109Ds. 1945: elements of the United States Army 101st Cavalry Group moves into the village, C-47 Skytrain transports are flying in supplies. 1945 – 1947: U.S. Air Force units, the 42d Air Supply Squadron and the 30th Air Depot (Illesheim Air Depot). 1947: U.S. Army takes over renaming the facility Storck Barracks, after Colonel Louis J. Storck, who served as Executive Officer for the 4th Armored Division, Commander of Combat Command A and the 37th Armor Regiment, and S-3 and Commander of the 704th Tank Destroyer Battalion in World War II. Colonel Storck was awarded the Silver Star posthumously for his gallantry in action near Raids, France from July 17 to 25, 1944. 1947 – 1971: 1st Brigade, of the 4th Armor Division that included the 4/35th Armor and the 2/51st Infantry Division as well as various other units are stationed on Storck Barracks. 1971 – 1987: 1st AD, 1st battalion, 6th Infantry, “Regulars, by God!” and 1st Battalion, 13th Armor are stationed at llesheim. Storck Barracks is located approximately 40 kilometers (25 miles) from Ansbach with its exit gate within the town limits of Illesheim. Storck Barracks is home to the Regionally Allocated Forces (RAF) Aviation Brigade and LRC-Aviation. On Storck Barracks, you will find bachelor officer/bachelor enlisted quarters, a fitness center, a chapel, a bank, a Postal Service Center (a combined community mail room and U.S. Post Office) and a gas station with Shoppette. USAG Ansbach provides support the RAF Soldiers offering ACS services and MWR facilities to include a recreation center.
