Welcome to Germering – nice having you here! Currently 41.421 people call our city their home. With this number of inhabitants Germering has become the sixth largest municipality in Oberbayern. Historically, our town has been formed in 1978 by uniting the two former independent communities Germering and Unterpfaffenhofen. In 1991 the former municipality was officially nominated as city and since 2004 is allowed to call itself “Große Kreisstadt”. And of course the two twin towns, Domont (France) and Balatonfüred (Hungary), have long become good friends. Asking the locals what makes living here so attractive, you will be sure to receive many different answers: the excellent infrastructure, the large variety of shopping facilities and a very good medical care situation, the outstanding social net providing lots of help and support for people every age, the large variety of care facilities and schools, the connections to the A96 and A99 motorways as well as the direct S-Bahn (S8). Germering is of interest as a working and economic location, too. Solid structures have grown during the last few decades, resulting in prospering local trades. You don’t have to travel far, to spend your free time. All of which demonstrate their talents regularly in exhibitions, concerts, performances and every other year at the “Germeringer Musiknacht”. Most of them take place at our Stadthalle, complementing its excellent cultural program of nationally and inter- nationally known artists. The Stadtbibliothek provides more than 67.000 books, audiobooks, electronic media, newspapers and magazines etc. And the museum “Zeit+Raum” exhibits the history of the areas settlement since the Stone Age.
