Total recreation at the “White Giant” Monte Kaolino sand hill in Hirschau Caribbean flair in the Upper Palatinate Monte Kaolino rises above the beau- tiful, diverse landscape of the Upper Palatinate Forest. The sand dune, made up of over 32 Mill. Tons of quartz sand, is the only sand skiing hill in the world with a stationary lift and it really is a paradise for skiing and sport enthu- siast. Racing down the sand slope, taking curves and caprioles down to the valley – and doing all that in a bathing suit, trunks or bikini. The finest white quartz sand and spectac- ular desert flair have established the giant sand dune as a Mecca in the international board scene. Anyone who has no sand skis, a board, or a sledge can borrow them on the spot. You can take the lift or climb the hill and be rewarded at the top by the magnificent panoramic view. At the base of the hill, the recreation park Monte Kaolino offers unique leisure or sporting activities. After the experi- ence on the dune, enjoy the Caribbean beach feeling in the adjacent heated Dune pool. A 25 m swimmer’s pool and a diving area with 3 m and 1 m diving boards, an adventure pool with underwater jets and a 50 m water slide make each bathing day an unforgetta- ble experience. The 70 square kilome- ters large children’s pool in the shape of a sailing boat and the sand-pit with moats and water courses, really get the children’s pulses racing. Refreshments in between can be partaken on the sun terrace or in the Café-Restaurant “Am Monte Kaolino”. The Monte Coaster is the first roller coaster in the world to be built on sand – on the Monte Kaolino. Using state of the art sledge technology, a Coaster-sledge on rails takes you to the highest point of the quartz sand hill in 2 minutes (the uphill drive in Hirschau is one of the steepest in the whole of Germany). Down it goes, over jumps and waves, round hair- pin bends to the valley, on a roughly 1000 m long track – the perfect roller coaster experience! One of the biggest attractions on the Monte-Coaster is the spectacular 365 degree panorama roundabout with a photographic system, which automatically takes your picture and measures your velocity. High tension is guaranteed on the adjoining Forest high wire park with 5 courses with different leves of diffi- culty. Without impairment of nature or damage to the trees, in 4-13 m height and under professional guidance, cer- tain exercises have to be accomplished and under the treetops, the path passes over steel wire rope, swings, ropeways and boardwalks. Another new attraction is the Team high wire park where the exercises can only be completed by the group. This is about a specific manager training, the ability of colleagues to work as a team or to gain expertise in private as well as social areas. Courage, self-confidence, flexibility and a readiness to assume risks, go hand in hand with communi- cation, mutual trust, solution oriented thinking and personal effort, and all that as a group. The exercises have to be successfully completed at 5 stations on the Team high wire park. Visitors from near and far are wel- come to make a longer stay at the Camping ground with its pleasant, family-friendly atmosphere. The sanitary facilities, which also cater for the needs of people with disabilities, ar state-of-the-art. The camp mobile service station and the caravans for rent gladden all campers. The camping ground offers 220 tourist campsites and 30 sites for camp mobiles in a quiet location directly next to the Dune swimming pool.
