41 Welcome to the U.S. Army Garrison Grafenwoehr. The District of NEW with its 38 townships is located in the heart of Europe, in the Upper Palatinate County in northeastern Bavaria. To the east, the District shares a 24 mile border with the Czech Republic. The independent town of Weiden and the military training area of Grafenwöhr are located within the District. Transport connections are excellent: NEW is well connected in all directions, to the north and south via autobahn A 93, and to the west and east via A 6, providing rapid access to cities such as Munich, Regensburg and Nuremberg. Some “global players” like WITRON, BHS Corrugated, Pilkington or Constantia Hueck Folien are headquartered in the District of Neustadt. The District of NEW is located within the Northern Upper Palatinate Forest Nature Park. Nature reserves like “Waldnaabtal” near Windischeschenbach or “Rußweiher” near Eschenbach are just a few of the many relaxing local recreation areas available for nature lovers. Numerous hiking and bicycle trails are crisscrossing the District and its idyllic landscape. We invite you to explore and enjoy our District with its villages and sights, forests and lakes.
