Sostenibilidad: ¿electricidad o agua? Drinking water is our most important food. The communal utilities of Niefern-Oeschelbronn have the task to supply the entire municipality with water and electricity and to create the necessary facilities, installations and capacities. To restore the water supply, the communal utilities have 5 fountains, 9 overhead tanks and 1 waterworks at its disposal. Most of the drinking water in Niefern-Oeschelbronn is sourced from own ground water. Over and above, water from the Bodensee (Lake Constance) is fed into the water network, in order to optimize the water hardness. Therefore the security of supply, a good quality and an acknowledged grade of water hardness is guaranteed. The water is offered in sufficient quantity, best quality and for a reasonable price to the citizens. The communal utilities of Niefern-Oeschelbronn are running their own power grid on the residential area. One part of the electricity is from own production the rest is received from other electricity suppliers. The communal utilities run a hydraulic power station at the Enz river. This regenerative and environment-friendly energy source provides about 1million kWh/annum. Over and above, electricity is environment-friendly produced by photovoltaic systems, applied to the roofs of the town hall and the builder’s yard. Two cogeneration units, one in the waste water treat- ment plant and the other in the public indoor pool, are pro- ducing electricity and heat effectively. Today, the community is already a forerunner in terms of climate protection and sustainability. Through setting an in- tegrated communal climate protection concept to identify further actions and projects, as well as the participation at the European Energy Award, the community is committed to taking on the responsibility for following generations.
